The Right Reverend Father Vincent Vijai Thakore
My Grandfather heard the Gospel and converted from Hindu Rajput
to Christianity. The day he accepted Christ he was disowned by his
royal father. He lost his family, wealth, land and succession to
the throne. Finally he was speared by his own brothers, thrown into
a dry well and left to die. He was saved miraculously. He preached
the Gospel to the natives in Central India.
My
Grandmother established a family tradition to offer the eldest son
to serve Christ full time. My father was the oldest, then I am the
oldest. I did my masters in Psychology and became a professor. After
5 yrs. I got a chance to join the seminary and did my masters in
Theology. I could not get a church so I continued with the secular
field. And did my masters in Education from Emory University. From
childhood I served Christ in many ways and brought several people
to Christ. In India there are only 2% Christians. In the college
with 3,000 students and 60 staff members I was the only Christian
staff with one Christian student.
This
gave me opportunity to bring more people to St.James to visit and
join if they chose to. One came and became a regular participant.
I found out that she had never been baptized. We prayed and worked
with her. On March 16,'97 she was Baptized. I continue to try to
invite friends, co-workers and relatives to St. James.
By
God's grace one day I shall be able to serve Jesus day and night
without the conflict of working in the secular field.
